Acceptance of these Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal agreement between you and DossDev concerning the BoxDex iOS application, related services, and BoxDex pages that link to these Terms (together, the “Service”). By downloading, accessing, creating an account for, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the BoxDex Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you use BoxDex for an organization or another person, you represent that you have authority to bind them, and “you” includes that organization or person where the context permits.
Eligibility
You must be legally capable of entering this agreement and at least 13 years old or the higher minimum age required where you live. If applicable law allows a minor to use the Service only with permission, a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms and supervise the use.
You may not use the Service if doing so would violate applicable sanctions, export controls, laws, or an agreement binding on you. Information you provide about your identity, account, authority, or household must be accurate and current.
What BoxDex provides
BoxDex is a home-inventory organization tool. Depending on the version, device, region, configuration, and feature availability, it may help you organize rooms, boxes, and items; attach photos and receipts; record values, serial numbers, warranties, and notes; create or scan QR labels; search records; synchronize through iCloud; share a household; request AI-assisted item recognition; and generate CSV, JSON, PDF, or other reports and exports.
Features, formats, limits, eligibility, integrations, and system requirements may change. A description, screenshot, roadmap, or previous version does not promise that a feature will always be available or work in a particular way.
Accounts and access
You may need an eligible Apple, Google, iCloud, or other provider account. You are responsible for safeguarding your device, passcode, sign-in credentials, recovery methods, household links, and any activity occurring through your BoxDex account to the extent caused by your acts or omissions.
Do not share credentials or permit unauthorized access. Notify DossDev promptly at support@dossdev.com if you reasonably suspect unauthorized use. DossDev may require verification before changing an account or disclosing account information and may decline a request that cannot be safely verified.
Limited app licence
Subject to these Terms and the applicable App Store rules, DossDev grants you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, and non-transferable licence to install and use BoxDex on Apple-branded products that you own or control, including through permitted Family Sharing or volume-purchase arrangements, solely for lawful personal or internal business inventory purposes.
The Service is licensed, not sold. DossDev and its licensors reserve every right not expressly granted. This licence ends when these Terms or your right to use the Service ends.
Your content
As between you and DossDev, you retain ownership of inventory records, text, images, receipts, files, and other content you submit or create (“User Content”). You give DossDev a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, process, transmit, format, display, back up, and share User Content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and provide the Service; follow your directions; enforce these Terms; and comply with law. This licence lasts only as long as necessary for those purposes, subject to the retention limits in the Privacy Policy.
You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed for User Content and its use through BoxDex. You are responsible for its accuracy, legality, and appropriateness and for obtaining consent before adding another person's information or property. DossDev may remove or restrict content when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect the Service or others, or address a breach of these Terms.
Household sharing
Household owners and administrators control invitations and roles. Before inviting someone, confirm the address, recipient, and content you intend to share. A forwarded or exposed invitation or share link may allow unintended access until it expires or is revoked.
Authorized members may be able to view, add, edit, delete, export, or independently copy shared content. Changes can synchronize across devices and may be difficult or impossible to undo. Removing a member or ending a share does not retrieve copies already exported, photographed, printed, or otherwise retained.
You are responsible for choosing household members and resolving ownership, permission, and accuracy disputes among them. DossDev is not a party to household arrangements and is not responsible for a member's conduct, except to the extent applicable law provides otherwise. Export anything you need before leaving a household or closing an account.
AI-assisted features
AI recognition is optional and may generate suggested names, brands, models, serial numbers, categories, values, and related fields from an image. AI output is probabilistic. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, biased, duplicated, unavailable, or unsuitable for your circumstances.
You must review and correct every result before saving, sharing, reporting, purchasing, disposing of property, or making an insurance, financial, legal, safety, or other decision. Do not treat output as a professional appraisal, authentication, warranty, provenance check, safety assessment, or professional advice.
Do not submit faces, access credentials, identity documents, financial information, confidential material, unlawful content, or other sensitive data unless genuinely necessary and lawful. Output may resemble content produced for others and may not be unique or protectable. You remain responsible for how you use the input and output.
Insurance, valuation, and professional advice
BoxDex is an organizational tool, not an insurance service
DossDev is not an insurer, broker, agent, adjuster, appraiser, auditor, accountant, lawyer, or financial adviser. BoxDex does not issue policies, bind coverage, determine replacement cost, validate ownership, settle claims, or guarantee reimbursement.
Coverage scores, readiness indicators, suggested prices, totals, categories, reports, and exports are informational estimates based on available inputs and may be incomplete or wrong. They do not establish market value, replacement value, authenticity, condition, ownership, coverage, policy compliance, loss, or entitlement to a claim payment.
Your insurer and policy documents control. Ask your insurer what evidence, valuation method, photos, receipts, appraisals, storage, timing, and report format it requires. Preserve original documents and obtain an independent qualified appraisal or professional advice for valuable, unusual, disputed, regulated, or business property.
Exports, reports, and backups
Exports and reports can omit fields, crop images, use estimates, contain formatting errors, become outdated, or be incompatible with another service. Review each file before relying on or sending it. You are responsible for securely storing, transmitting, and disposing of exported files.
BoxDex is not a guaranteed backup, disaster-recovery, records-retention, or archival service. Synchronization is not the same as an independent backup: a deletion, error, conflict, account issue, or provider failure can propagate. Keep separate, current copies of important receipts, photos, serial numbers, appraisals, reports, recovery credentials, and other records in a secure location.
Purchases and possible subscriptions
BoxDex may offer paid features in the future. If a purchase or subscription is offered, the purchase screen shown before confirmation will state the available product, price, billing period, trial terms, renewal terms, and material limits. Those transaction-specific terms form part of these Terms and control if they conflict with a general description here.
Purchases made through the Apple App Store are charged to your Apple account and are also governed by Apple's payment terms. If recurring billing is offered, it will renew only as disclosed on the purchase screen and can be managed or cancelled through your Apple account settings. Cancellation generally prevents future renewals and does not retroactively refund the current period. Refund eligibility is determined under applicable law and Apple's rules. DossDev does not receive or store your full payment-card number for App Store purchases.
Taxes, currency conversion, price changes, family sharing, restoration, trials, and eligibility are handled as disclosed at purchase and under applicable platform rules. DossDev will not reduce a prepaid service period without providing any remedy required by law.
Acceptable use
You must not use or help others use the Service to:
- break a law, infringe rights, invade privacy, deceive, harass, threaten, exploit, or facilitate harm;
- upload content you lack authority to use, including stolen records, unlawful surveillance material, malware, or content that violates intellectual-property or privacy rights;
- identify or profile people without a lawful basis, or use AI output for high-impact decisions about another person;
- probe, scan, test, bypass, disable, or interfere with security, authentication, rate limits, access controls, or network integrity without written authorization;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, derive source code, scrape, or build a competing dataset or service, except where applicable law expressly permits and cannot be waived;
- introduce malicious code, overload infrastructure, automate abusive requests, impersonate someone, conceal unauthorized access, or disrupt another user's experience;
- resell, rent, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service except under a separate written agreement; or
- use the Service in a way that exposes DossDev, a provider, or another person to unreasonable legal, security, or operational risk.
DossDev may investigate suspected misuse and preserve or disclose information when reasonably necessary and lawful. Enforcement may include limiting features, removing content, suspending access, terminating an account, or contacting appropriate authorities.
Intellectual property
BoxDex software, interfaces, visual design, documentation, trademarks, logos, service content, and underlying technology are owned by DossDev or its licensors and are protected by applicable laws. These Terms do not transfer that ownership or permit use of the BoxDex or DossDev names and marks except as necessary to identify the unmodified Service.
If you voluntarily provide feedback, you grant DossDev a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable right to use it without restriction or compensation, provided DossDev does not publicly identify you as its source without permission. This feedback licence does not transfer ownership of your User Content.
Third-party services
BoxDex relies on or may interact with Apple, the App Store, iCloud and CloudKit, Sign in with Apple, Google sign-in, Supabase, the paid Google Gemini API, operating-system features, and services you select for saving or sharing exports. Their terms, privacy practices, availability, account rules, limits, and technical decisions apply to their services.
DossDev does not control third-party systems and is not responsible for their independent conduct, content, outages, changes, security, retention, or account decisions, except to the extent applicable law makes DossDev responsible. A third-party failure may prevent BoxDex from signing in, syncing, sharing, recognizing, restoring, or otherwise functioning.
Availability and changes to the Service
The Service may be interrupted, delayed, restricted, or unavailable because of maintenance, updates, network conditions, device limitations, provider failures, security events, legal requirements, or circumstances beyond reasonable control. Sync conflicts, stale records, duplicate entries, failed uploads, or data loss can occur.
DossDev may add, change, limit, suspend, or discontinue features or the Service. Where reasonably practicable and legally required, DossDev will provide notice of a material discontinuation and a reasonable opportunity to export supported data. DossDev does not promise perpetual support, backward compatibility, or availability on every device, operating-system version, region, or account.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using BoxDex at any time and may request account deletion through the app. Deleting the app alone may not delete cloud, account, household, export, or provider-held information. Review the Privacy Policy and export needed records first.
DossDev may limit, suspend, or terminate access when reasonably necessary because you materially breach these Terms; create security, legal, or safety risk; misuse the Service; fail to pay an applicable charge; or when the Service is discontinued. DossDev will provide notice and an opportunity to address the issue when reasonably practicable, unless immediate action is needed or notice is prohibited.
On termination, the licence ends and you must stop using the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive will survive, including provisions about ownership, feedback, payment obligations, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, disputes, governing law, and general terms.
Disclaimers
Please read this limitation carefully
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” with all faults and without warranties, representations, conditions, or guarantees of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or collateral.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DossDev disclaims implied warranties and conditions of merchantable quality, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, quiet enjoyment, non-infringement, accuracy, completeness, security, availability, compatibility, and results. DossDev does not warrant that BoxDex will meet your requirements; work without interruption, delay, loss, corruption, conflict, or error; recover content; identify or value an item correctly; satisfy an insurer; or remain compatible with a provider or device.
No statement or advice creates a warranty unless expressly stated in these Terms. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain disclaimers, so they apply only to the extent lawful. Any mandatory warranty, condition, or remedy remains available for the minimum scope and duration required by law.
Limits of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DossDev and its suppliers, licensors, contractors, and representatives will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, aggravated, or punitive damages; loss of profits, revenue, savings, business, opportunity, goodwill, reputation, or use; loss, corruption, disclosure, or cost of restoring data; replacement services; household disputes; insurance denial or underpayment; or third-party conduct, even if advised that such loss was possible.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DossDev's total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to BoxDex or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) CAD $100 and (b) the amount you paid for BoxDex during the 12 months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim.
The exclusions and cap apply regardless of the theory of liability and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. They are a fundamental allocation of risk reflected in making the Service available.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability, remedies, warranties, or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. The exclusions and cap do not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence where it cannot be limited, death or personal injury caused by negligence where it cannot be limited, or any other liability that applicable law makes non-waivable.
Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless DossDev and its suppliers, licensors, contractors, and representatives from third-party claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your unlawful or unauthorized use of the Service; your User Content; your violation of another person's rights; your household invitations or administration; or your material breach of these Terms.
DossDev will give reasonable notice of a covered claim and may control its defence and settlement. You will reasonably cooperate. You may not settle a claim in a way that admits fault by or imposes an obligation on DossDev without written consent. This section does not require you to indemnify DossDev for DossDev's own fraud, wilful misconduct, unlawful conduct, or other responsibility that cannot lawfully be shifted to you.
Resolving disputes
Before starting a court claim, you and DossDev agree to try in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days. Send a written notice describing the issue, supporting facts, and requested resolution to support@dossdev.com. DossDev may respond using the contact information associated with your account.
This informal step does not prevent either party from seeking urgent injunctive relief, filing a claim needed to preserve a limitation period, using an eligible small-claims process, reporting to a regulator, or exercising a right that cannot lawfully be delayed or waived.
Governing law and courts
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to mandatory rights that apply where you live, you and DossDev submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada.
If consumer-protection law in your province, state, territory, or country gives you non-waivable rights, remedies, governing law, or access to local courts, those mandatory provisions prevail to the extent of a conflict. Nothing here requires you to give up a statutory complaint or collective remedy that applicable law does not permit you to waive.
Terms required for Apple users
If you obtained BoxDex through the Apple App Store, you acknowledge and agree that:
- these Terms are between you and DossDev, not Apple, and DossDev—not Apple—is solely responsible for BoxDex and its content;
- your licence is limited to Apple-branded products you own or control as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules, including any permitted Family Sharing or volume-purchase use;
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for BoxDex;
- if BoxDex fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation, and DossDev is responsible for any remaining warranty claim that law requires;
- DossDev, not Apple, is responsible for addressing claims relating to BoxDex or your possession or use of it, including product-liability, legal-compliance, and consumer-protection claims, subject to these Terms and applicable law;
- DossDev, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of a claim that BoxDex infringes a third party's intellectual-property rights;
- you represent that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism and are not listed on a United States government prohibited or restricted-party list;
- you must comply with applicable third-party terms when using BoxDex; and
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce these Apple-specific terms against you after you accept them.
Changes to these Terms
DossDev may update these Terms prospectively to reflect changes to BoxDex, providers, business needs, risk, or law. The “Last updated” date identifies the current version. DossDev will provide reasonable notice of material changes through the app, this page, email, or another appropriate channel where required.
If you continue using the Service after revised Terms take effect, you accept them to the extent permitted by law. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account. A change does not retroactively reduce rights or increase liability for events that occurred before its effective date unless lawfully agreed.
General terms
These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any transaction-specific terms presented at purchase are the entire agreement about the Service and replace prior discussions on that subject. If a provision is unlawful or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum lawful extent or severed, and the remainder will continue. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
You may not assign these Terms or transfer an account without DossDev's written consent. DossDev may assign these Terms as part of a financing, reorganization, merger, sale, transfer of the Service, or by operation of law, subject to applicable notice and consumer rights. There are no third-party beneficiaries except Apple and its subsidiaries as stated above.
DossDev is not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond reasonable control, but this does not excuse obligations that applicable law does not permit DossDev to avoid. Headings are for convenience. “Including” means “including without limitation.” Electronic notices and records satisfy writing requirements where legally permitted. The English version governs except where law requires otherwise.
